Course Description

The course focuses on the analysis, interpretation, and decoding of theatrical and literary works, as well as thematic and aesthetic trends in Francophone dramaturgy and literature from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean (Antilles), the Indian Ocean, and Canada.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • decode and analyse contemporary Francophone theatrical and literary works from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean, and Canada; 
  • apply key principles of Francophone dramaturgy, including its historical background, linguistic features, and cultural specificities; 
  • identify thematic, aesthetic, and stylistic characteristics across different Francophone geographical and cultural contexts; 
  • critically engage with the diversity and evolution of contemporary Francophone theatre and literature.
